Keane, playing off 12, played excellent golf throughout, going out in 22pts after a fast start which saw him par three of the opening four holes to reach 10pts.
After a one-point bogey at the fifth, he had a three-point birdie at the sixth followed by three-point pars at the seventh and eighth and a two-point bogey at the ninth.
His back nine was just as steady as he came home in 21pts. He picked up 10pts from the first four holes down the back with pars at the 10th, 12th and 13th and added two more with a par at the 14th.
Two-point bogeys at 15 and 16 followed, but he had to settle for pars on the final two holes as birdie putts burned both holes.
McDermott, who was playing off 15, parred three of the first six holes and was on 14pts after six holes before finding water on the par-five seventh and doing well to get a point with two putts from the back of the green.
Two two-point bogeys followed at the eighth and ninth as he turned on 19pts.
He rescued a three-point par on the 10th after finding the trees off the tee and then got up and down for par at the 11th, followed by a regulation par at the 12th before holing a putt from off the green on13 for a three-point birdie.
That 12-point haul left him on 31pts with five to play, and after a one-point bogey at the 14th he bounced back with an up and down for a three-point par on the 15th.
Two-point bogeys on the next two holes left him on 39pts with one to play, and after coming up short with his approach to the last, he holed his putt from off the front of the green for a four-point birdie to reach 43pts and deny Keane on countback thanks to a back nine of 24pts.
Aaron Waite (11) took Division 1 with 41pts as he edged out Darren O’Brien (7) by one, while Division 2 was won by Kenneth Lynch (16), who had three points to spare over Aidan Gaughran (17) after shooting 41pts.
Conor McDonnell (22) won Division 3 with 38pts as he edged out Paul O’Hale (32), while Emmet McCabe Savage had the best gross with a one-under par 35pts after a round that included an eagle three at the 10th and birdies at the sixth, seventh and ninth.
There were 16 Twos recorded, including one from Joe McGeown, who holed his approach at the par four first hole for an eagle two.
The EPower sponsored Wednesday Open was won by Cian Sheridan (28), who shot 41pts. He went out on 21 pts after picking up three points at the first, third, fifth, seventh and eighth holes and came home in 20pts after a four-point par at the 11th and three-pointers at the 10th, 16th and 17th.
His nearest challenger was Padraig Hassett (16), who shot 40pts to take Division 2, while Darren O’Brien (6) continued his fine form with 39pts to win Division 1, and his gross score of 33pts was the best of the day. Noel Crowe (24) with 36pts won Division 3.
