Annual War Memorial Remembrance Service to take place in Louth

The Annual War Memorial Remembrance Service takes place at The Drogheda Cenotaph on Saturday 7 November at 11am
The annual War Memorial Remembrance Service will take place at the Cenotaph on Mary Street, Drogheda, on Saturday, 7 November at 11am.
Organised by Louth County Council, the ceremony will include prayers, readings, music and the laying of wreaths in memory of the men from Drogheda and the surrounding area who lost their lives during the First World War.
Unveiled on Armistice Day in 1925, the Cenotaph records their names, ranks and regiments.
Cllr Declan Power, Mayor of the Borough District of Drogheda, said: “This service provides an important opportunity for us to come together as a community to honour and remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of peace and freedom.
“Unveiled more than a century ago, the Cenotaph remains a powerful symbol of courage, loss and remembrance. I hope that people from Drogheda and the surrounding area will join us for this important occasion of remembrance and reflection.”

The commemoration will be followed by a seminar titled: ‘Remembering the Great War 1914- 1918’, which will take place at St Peter’s Church of Ireland Hall, Peter Street, Drogheda at 1.30pm.
Organised by Drogheda Civic Trust, the seminar will include contributions from Dr Fionnuala Walsh, Sean Collins, Liz Gillis and Dr Donal Hall, exploring various aspects of the Great War and its impact on County Louth.
Refreshments will be served on arrival at the seminar. Both events are free and open to the public.
