The Dundalk and District Darts League Summer Series of Darts continues

Last Thursday saw the annual Quigley Cup take place as Event Six of the Summer Series of Darts in the Northend Bar.

Played for a number of years as the Michael Quigley Cup, the Cup is played in memory of Michael, Jock (Patsy), Jimmy, Alan and other members of the Quigley family who were great supporters of darts in the locality for many years.

On the night, 24 teams (48 players) competed in a pick-your-own-partner doubles darts competition.

Board 1 saw the McMahon brothers, Mickey & Noel, out to try to win a cup they won back in 2001.

They were up from the outset, but having beaten Dylan Kirk and Thomas Garvey, they then beat Pearse and Barney before getting the better of Paddy Taaffe and his mother Marianne in the board final.

Board Two saw Mark Connolly and Conor McArdle team up, and they were fancied to go well in the competition.

After beating Thomas and James Quigley, they then saw off Darren Ludlow and Lee Smyth in a high-scoring game before getting the better of Jordan McInerney and James Webb in the Board Final.

The Rogan brothers, Eamonn and Alan, were another combination fancied to go well on Board Three.

After getting the better of Joe Davidson and Davy Gonnelly, they then got past Fintan Rogers and Matt Turnbull before seeing off Ryan McEntee and Conor Shevlin in the board final.

And Board Four saw Aidan Minto and Jonny Knobloch see off Gerry Rice and Brian Mc Ardle before they were beaten by another set of brothers, Niall and Ryan Woods.

It's Niall's first season throwing darts competitively, and he's gotten a number of wins this season in the DDDL, while his younger brother Ryan is throwing in his first competitions in the Northend, and it should be a good learning curve for him.

On the same board, it was an all-family affair on the other side of the draw with mother and daughter duo, Cara and Joanne O'Shaughnessy, unfortunately losing 2-1 to Joanne's brother Daniel, who teamed up with Joanne's son Conor.

Daniel and Conor had last won this competition in 2024, while Daniel had previously won this competition in the earlier years of it being played for when he had teamed up with his late dad, Tommy.

Daniel and Conor would go on to beat Niall and Ryan 3-0 in the board final.

The overall semifinals saw Mickey and Noel get the better of Mark and Conor, while the other semifinal saw the Dunn lads get the better of the Rogans; both games were high-scoring.

Onto the final, both teams threw very well, with 100+ scores being hit on a regular basis, but it was the Dunns who would eventually go on to win the cup and be dual winners of the competition.

Next up is the Tommy Dunn on Saturday 8th August in the Northend and Bodhran. There are 64 players signed up for this event, and it promises to be a great day of darts.
