Annual Fundraising Walk

The Ladies who have for many years participated in the Marathon in Dublin to raise Funds for the Carrick Cancer group, have decided that this year they will take part in the Carrickmacross Marathon, which is also a 10km Walk/Run, and is on the Sunday of the June Bank Holiday weekend. There is no entry fee and you can contact Bernie Smyth, Sinead Byrne, Catherine Dooley, Mary Woods or Rita Callan for Sponsorship cards. Hopefullly they will have a huge response to this as it keeping these vital Funds local.

Tidy Towns

A big thank you to the Killanny/Inniskeen Scouts and Leaders for building the Recycle Plastic Greenhouse, it is in place at St Daighs school along the road for you to see. We are asking you not to throw Litter out of your car, the roads were all cleaned 2 weeks ago and some roads have lots of Litter already. if you see someone littering make them aware of what they are doing. With only 3 weeks left to the judging, lots of work will happen over the few weeks. If any business, groups or families would like to sponsor flowers this year we would be very gratefull. please contact Ann Marie Mulholland 086 3312922, or any committee. we are also looking for more members to help us.

Golf Classic

Inniskeen Golf Classic kindly sponsored by Matthews Tours will take place in Mannan Castle Golf Club on Fri 31st May. 4 person team €180 Food and goodies on the day. If you don’t play golf support us by sponsoring a T.Box or

green for €50 to Fr. Martin or Fr. Billy or any committee member. You will have your name displayed on the course.

Community Alert

Community Alert .Have you signed up for TEXT ALERT yet ? Forms available in the local shops or from committee members .

€2 per form.Forms along with €2 can be returned to any committee member or placed in a box in Magees shop and Credit Union from this weekend .

Coffee Morning

Coffee Morning in Eileen Meegan’s home in Drummond this Saturday, 18th May from 11am-4pm. Please note change of date from last week’s bulletin. All monies to go to Carrick Cancer and Church Development Fund. Your support would be gratefully appreciated.

Summer Camp

The Bingo is on this Saturday night, as usual, in the Community Social Club at the usual time of 8.30pm. . The usual Prizes and a Jackpot of €850 on offer, increasing monthly by €50 if not won, this week on 45 numbers. Books €5 and Sheet €2. Rosary at the Shrine of Our Lady, Kednaminsha on Sunday, 26th May at 7pm. Please come and pray for the needs of the parish.

Social Club

This Saturday music as usual for the weekly Dance for all those who are interested in Jiving etc. 10.15pm. This week Saturday May the 25th Tommy Mac.

Lough Derg

Inniskeen Parish Trip to Lough Derg for the one day pilgrimage on Wednesday September 11th price €50 (including bus) Booking and monies to Fr. Martin as soon as possible to secure seat.

Inniskeen Parish Trip to Lough Derg - Three day Pilgrimage June 12th - 14th. Price €80 (including bus). All names and monies to Fr. Martin as soon as possible.

Pick 4

Due to the falling numbers of envelopes for the weekly Pick 4, the Committee have reluctantly decided to reduce the weekly increase in the Jackpot to €100 and the weekly payout, if Jackpot not won, to €100, (5 x €20). When and if the numbers increase considerably the Committee will return to the original arrangements.

The Pick 4 envelopes are the sole Fundraiser for the Inniskeen Ladies Football club and for Blackstaff Parents Association so all our support is appreciated.

At the Pick 4 draw held on Monday May 5th the numbers drawn were 3, 7, 17 and 23 and there was no outright winner of the Jackpot of €4,600. Winners of €20 each are as follows:- Arlene McGeeney, Carrickakelly, Fiona Callan, Carrickavoley, Anthony Ashfield, Ednamo, Bernie Smyth, Drumganny and Kathleen Byrne, Momoney This week the Jackpot is €4,700 and to be in with a chance get your entry from any member of Inniskeen Ladies GFC, Blackstaff Parents Association or the Development Group

Sunday Dancing

On Sunday night music as usual for the weekly Fun dance. A great nights dancing for all who enjoy lively music and fun dancing. This Sunday May the 26th The Hustlers, great Bands with lively music for Dancing each night.

Blessing of the Graves - Sunday 16th June Drumcatton 6.00pm, Inniskeen 7.30pm. Please remind family and friends living outside the parish of the date and time.

Annual Patrick Kavanagh

Poetry Awards 2013

The Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award is for a first unpublished collection of poems in English by an Irish poet.

The award is now in its 42nd year. Previous winners include Eileán Ni Chuilleanáin, Paul Durcan, Thomas McCarthy, Peter Sirr, Sinead Morrissey, Conor O’Callaghan, Pat Boran, Joseph Woods and Geraldine Mitchell.

The winner of this year’s award will receive €1,000.

The closing date for entry to the competition is Friday 26th July 2013.

The Award will be presented on Friday 27th September 2013 at the opening of the Annual Patrick Kavanagh Weekend in Inniskeen.

The Whist is held each Tuesday night at 8pm in the Social Club and new players are always welcome to come along and join in. On May 7th, the highest score was held by Ann O’Reilly highest lady jointly held by Phil Rafferty & Maire Traynor, 2nd Lady Jeanette Connolly,joint highest gents Patsy Murphy & Thomas Murphy, 2nd Gent: Paddy Duffy, lowest score Rose Ramsey, Sweep winner Anna Faughey, and longest Sit Bella Jones

Kavanagh Student Poetry

Award 2013

The Patrick Kavanagh Centre is organising this award which in previous years was organised by Co. Monaghan V.E.C. It is open to students of second-level schools in Counties Armagh, Cavan, Fermanagh, Louth, Meath, Monaghan, and Tyrone.

Rules of the competition and entry-forms are available from the Patrick Kavanagh Centre.

Closing date for receipt of entries is Friday 31st May 2013 at 4pm

Presentation of this year’s certificates and prizes will be on Sunday 29th September in the Patrick Kavanagh Centre, Inniskeen.Winning schools will be given good notice of same.

The annual Patrick Kavanagh Weekend takes place in Inniskeen, Co Monaghan from Friday, 27th to Sunday - 29th September 2013.

Kerr’s Ass ‘an exile that night in Mucker’ One-man show - performed by Art Agnew on Sat. 25th May in association with Dundalk Chamber of Commerce as part of their Gathering event. Traditional Music event 23rd June. Inniskeen Road July Evening Festival 12th - 14th July. Plans are well underway for this new festival which will be held 12th-14th July as part of Ireland’s Gathering 2013. Why not invite your family and friends overseas to return to Inniskeen for this festival which promises to be an event not to be missed with fun for all the family with music, dance, storytelling and walking tours of Kavanagh Country. There will be performances of farming scenes from the 1930/1940’s and readings and performances at many of the sites immortalised in Kavanagh’s poems by well known national and local actors and much more. Volunteers will be needed for stewarding and to help over the festival weekend. We would be delighted to hear from all who would like to help out with this community event.
