Met Éireann has issued a status yellow rain warning for Louth and seven other countries across Ireland as local flooding is possible.

The warning states that heavy rain will spread northeastwards later today with potential impacts including localised flooding and difficult travelling conditions.

The warning will be in place from 10pm tonight until 4am Friday morning.

Today

Any remaining rain and drizzle in the east of the province will soon clear this morning and it will be mostly dry for a time with some sunshine. Becoming mostly cloudy later though, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle spreading from the southwest this evening. Highest temperatures of 16 to 18 degrees in mostly moderate west to southwest winds.

Widespread rain for a time early tonight with some heavy falls will lead to spot flooding in places. It'll turn very windy for a time in the south of the province overnight with strong to gale force and gusty southerly winds developing, gradually veering west to northwest and decreasing fresh to strong.

Winds will be lighter further north. The rain will clear northeastwards from most parts overnight. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees.

Friday

Any remaining overnight rain will clear quickly tomorrow, Friday, morning, to leave a mainly dry morning with sunny spells. Scattered showers will spread from the west during the afternoon, however, and a few of them could be heavy with a chance of an isolated thunderstorm and hail. Top temperatures of 16 to 18 degrees in light to moderate westerly winds.

Showers or longer spells of rain with an ongoing chance of isolated thunderstorms will gradually become confined to the west and north on Friday night. Long clear spells will develop elsewhere overnight. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees with southwesterly winds decreasing mostly moderate overland, fresher near coasts.
