Dundalk Karate members made their annual journey to Liege in Belgium recently to train alongside fellow CIKA members from all over the world.

The local club, which is the only member of CIKA Ireland (Champions International Karate Association) in Dundalk and Co Louth, took full advantage of the weekend’s intensive training schedule, which was spread over two days.

Dundalk Karate - CIKA Dundalk members, Franciszek Chmielecki, Liam Hoey and Catherine Marcus spent over 10 hours perfecting numerous Kumite (fighting) techniques which delighted Head of Dundalk Karate - CIKA Dundalk, Sensei Mary Marcus 2nd Dan.

"Not only did our members train with fellow CIKA Ireland members, but they trained with CIKA members from all over the world,” she explained.

“New friendships were made not only on the tatami matts but also before and after training sessions where fellow CIKA members and coaches discussed all aspects of what was being achieved over the weekend.

“Not only did we as a club make new friends, but we enjoyed numerous team building exercises over the weekend, and with students and parents coming together to enjoy all aspects, this made the whole weekend one to remember and one to be built upon for next year."

Training continues for all members in the Redeemer Family Resource Centre, Dundalk, every Monday and Thursday. Dundalk Karate - CIKA Dundalk welcomes new members throughout the year, regardless of age or ability, so why not pop along to the Redeemer Family Resource Centre any Monday or Thursday from 7pm to 8pm , or call Sensei Marcus on 086 353 1625 or email karatequeen@live.com
