Westerns 1-12 Dowdallshill 2-5
A goal and a point in the closing stages saw the Westerns secure a four-point victory to end Dowdallshill’s Subsidiary League campaign.
A point from ‘Hill substitute Tommy Craig had levelled up the scores entering the last few minutes – but it was the Reaghstown men who finished the stronger with a goal and a point without reply, the major coming from a penalty.
Earlier in that second half, Dowdallshill had turned a five-point deficit into a one-point lead thanks to quickfire goals from Cian Griffin and Paddy McKenna. All that after the Westerns had led 0-7 to 0-3 at the interval.
The town side lost regular net minder Emmet O’Brien early on through injury, meaning Paudie Murray was forced to drop back to fill the void between the posts.
For the ‘Hill, attentions now turn to the start of the Division 3B League campaign, and the away match against St Nicholas.
Dowdallshill: Emmet O’Brien; Peter Hughes, Sean Duffy, Kenneth Edu; Paudie Murray (0-1), Paddy McKenna (1-0), Dylan McDonald (0-1); Stephen Murray, Sean McGuinness; Keenan McGavisk, Jack McGailey, Donal Magennis; John McKenny, Cian Griffin (1-1), Davy Campion
Subs: Darragh Newman for E O’Brien, Tommy Craig 0-1 for C Griffin
