Roche prove too strong for Dundalk Gaels

Roche Emmets 1-14 Dundalk Gaels 0-3

Roche Emmets enjoyed a comfortable passage into the next round of the Paddy Sheelan Shield when they proved too strong for Dundalk Gaels.

The game on Wednesday night in Roche was one-way traffic for much of the hour as they emerged with a 14-point win, with DD Reilly scoring the only goal of the game.

Most of the damage was done in the first half as the Faughart men turned around with a 1-9 to 0-2 advantage before easing home in the second half.

St. Patricks 5-9 Dreadnots 2-7

A dominant second-half display propelled St Patricks into the next round of the Paddy Sheelan Shield as they saw off the challenge of Dreadnots at Pairc Eamoin on Wednesday night.

The game was delicately poised at the break when the teams turned around on level terms, but three goals after the restart helped the hosts come out on top.

The Peninsula side were to top in the opening quarter and goals from Aidan McCann and Stephen Toner put them in a healthy position.

However, the Dreadnots battled back into contention and found the net through Conor Shevlin and Peter Kirwan to level the game at 2-4 apiece on the short whistle. Substitute Cillian Keenan added a fifth goal in the closing stages to complete the win.

St Brides 0-10 Kilkerley Emmets 0-7

St Brides got the better of neighbours Kilkerley Emmets on Tuesday night to keep their interest alive in the Paddy Sheelan Shield.

On a gusty evening in Knockbridge, it truly was a game of two halves. St. Brides capitalised on the elements in the first half, pulling ahead of Kilkerley, and leading at halftime by a score of 0-6 to 0-1.

The opening minute saw Neil Thornton bagging a point from play for St. Brides, followed by Kevin Hearty converting a close-in free for another point at the sixth minute. The ninth minute saw Ross Murnaghan and Kevin Hearty secure points from play.

Kilkerley’s Kyle Cotter got on the board with a point in the 19th minute, but it was answered by Hearty’s continued precision, adding another for St. Brides in the 27th minute.

As the first half wound down, Aaron Devin kicked with a long-range point to further their lead.

On the restart, Kilkerley harnessed the breeze to their advantage. Sub Fionn Cumiskey’s entrance made an immediate impact, with him scoring a point in the 34th minute followed by another in the 38th.

However, St. Brides remained resilient, with Eavan Wynne responding with a point. Kilkerley’s Cotter was quick to keep the heat on with another point, but St. Brides’ Kevin Hearty was equally steadfast, scoring down the other end.

Kilkerley’s Ewan McEnteggart and Conall McEnaney kicked points in the 13th and 14th minutes, respectively but in an exciting turn in the 18th minute, defender Brian Faul pushed forward for St. Brides and converted a point.

By the 22nd minute, Cumiskey continued to impact the game, scoring his third point of the night.

However, it was Hearty who closed out the game for St. Brides, marking the scorecard in the 28th minute to complete the win.

St. Mochtas 1-10 Geraldines 1-4

St Mochtas had six points to spare over Geraldines at Haggardstown on Wednesday night to ensure they advanced to the next round of the Paddy Sheelan Shield.

The visitors started strong, scoring a goal through Shane Lennon and a point in the opening ten minutes before Shane Rogers and Paddy Hoey got on the scoresheet for the home side.

The Mochtas kept the score ticking over before Michael Rogers scored a goal from distance to help cut the gap to three points at the break.

The second half saw the away side continue to dominate possession and scores with Geraldines only registering one score in the second half from Josh Speight.

St. Kevins 1-9 Glen Emmets 0-7

St Kevins advanced to the next round of the Paddy Sheelan Shield as they made a worthwhile trip to Cusack Park on Wednesday afternoon. In a well-contested match, it was a goal from Lee Crosbie that went a long way to seeing the visitors over the line.

It was Crosbie who opened the scoring inside a minute and although James Butler responded, the Kevins No 12 gave his side a huge boost when he found the net on 12 minutes.

Although Andrew Mooney responded for the hosts, Cian Callan struck two points to see his side lead by 1-4 to 0-3 at the break.

The Emmets battled in the second half to get back into the game and although they found the target through Cian Talbot and Paddy McHugh, the Philipstown side with Adam Cromwell among the second-half scorers.
