St Patrick’s goalkeeper, Martin McEneaney, landed an injury time point to earn his side a draw at home to St Joseph's in Group 4 of the Paddy Sheelan Cup on Wednesday night.

Oisin McGuinness had the opening point of the game, and Aidan McCann responded for the Pats.

The sides exchanged scores from Daire Smyth and Darren O’Hanlon with Oisin McGuinness adding two pointed frees to give the Joes a 0-4 to 0-2 lead after 12 minutes of play.

The Pats courtesy of three points in a row from Conor McGuinness led by one after 19 minutes. Oisin McGuinness drew the sides level with Aidan McCann pointing to put the Pats ahead, only for Oisin McGuinness to level the game at six points each.

The Pats had the final say of the half with scores from McCann and Conor McGuinness to lead by 0-8 to 0-6 at the break.

Two pointed frees from Oisin McGuinness had the sides level again on 37 minutes, while the sides again traded scores with an Alan Lynch pointed free cancelled out by an Aidan McCann on 42 minutes.

The only green flag of the game came on 44 minutes when Cathal Grogan hit the back of the Joes net. The Joes responded strongly with Jack Mulligan and Oisin McGuinness (2) bringing the sides level on 53 minutes.

With just two minutes of normal time remaining a Jack Mulligan free put the Joes ahead with the Pats equalising with the last action of the match to share the points.

MATTOCK RANGERS 1-14

A late goal helped Mattock Rangers come out on top in this Paddy Sheelan Cup encounter at Haggardstown on Wednesday night.

It was the home side who got off the mark first with a point from Jim McEneaney and although the same player added two late in the half, it was Mattock who had the better of things as they led by 0-7 to 0-3 at the interval.

The teams exchanged scores early in the second half with Mattock still holding a four-point lead until a long ball into the square from McEneaney saw the goalkeeper spill the ball on the line for Conor Rafferty to toe-poke the ball home from close range.

The game was kept to a two-point game until three minutes from time when the visitors hit the net through Sean Flynn to open up a five-point gap once more. Both sides would exchange one more point before the final whistle as Mattock held out for the win.

The top scorer on the night for the winners was Cathal Fleming, while Flynn, Oisin McKenna and Ben McKenna were also among the points. Jim McEneaney led the way for the Gers with six points.

The only goal of the game from Conor Martin proved decisive as Sean O’Mahonys got their season off to a winning start.

The Point Road side travelled to Fr McEvoy Park on Wednesday evening and narrowly came out on top in what proved to be an entertaining Paddy Sheelan Cup Group 7 encounter.

The goal arrived in the opening half of the game and it was enough to nudge the O’Mahonys into a slender 1-3 to 0-5 interval lead.

The second period followed a similar pattern as the teams continued to exchange scores but it was points from Terry Kelly and Thomas Rice, who finished with five and three respectively, that helped the Dundalk men come out on top.

ST FECHINS 2-7

CLAN NA GAEL 1-6 

St Fechins made a bright start to their 2024 season when they recorded a four-point victory away to Clan na Gael in Group 1 of the Paddy Sheelan Cup on Wednesday night.

Playing in damp heavy conditions the teams exchanged a brace of points in the first quarter but a well finished goal from Matthew Flanagan put a bit of space between the teams which the home side were unable to clawback.

Further points from Ronan Holcroft and Ryan Walsh had the teams going in at the halfway mark with a four point  gap, 1-4 to 0-3.

Cornerback Danny Burnell made a run up the field to get his first score of the season with an impressive point from play and this was followed up by a further point from a placed ball from Ryan Walsh.

The Clans cancelled those early scores with two of their own to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Points from substitute Harry Haughney and Ryan Walsh gave the Fechins a comfortable lead but the Clans were not finished and added a point from a free, and in the final minute were awarded a penalty which they converted but it wasn’t enough and the visitors took the spoils.

NH MAIRTIN 1-8

ST. BRIDES 1-6

Nh Mairtin overturned a three-point deficit before coming out on top against St Brides in this Paddy Sheelan Cup clash on Friday night.

The Brides, showing a strong start, immediately took the lead with an impressive goal from Paddy Reilly within the opening minutes.

Reilly didn't stop there, as he quickly added a point in the fourth minute, giving the Brides a strong early advantage. The momentum continued for St. Brides as Neil Thornton hammered in another point in the 11th minute.

Their lead was reinforced in the 16th minute with an additional point, concluding the first quarter with a lead of 1-3 to no score, leaving the Martins trailing.

However, the Martins were not ready to concede just yet. Val Leddy energised the team with a crucial score in the 17th minute, followed by a precise shot from Donal McArdle, adding yet another point for the Brides.

The Martins responded and the first half ended with three consecutive points from the undaunted Adam Booth, Jack Lynch, and Bryan McQuillan, bringing the scoreline to 1-5 to 0-5 at halftime.

As the second half unfolded, the Martins found their form and dominated possession. The resilience of Sam Murtagh awarded them a point, along with two additional points courtesy of Val Leddy's consistent performance.

It was Shane Morgan, however, who ultimately turned the tide with a brilliantly executed goal, sealing the fate of the match.

DUNDALK GAELS 2-9

Dundalk Gaels claimed their first victory of the season at their second attempt when they came out on top against St Mochtas.

The Paddy Sheelan Cup Group 3 encounter at The Ramparts on Sunday went the way of the hosts, with the help of goals from Tom O’Connell and Sean McCann.

The Gaels, who lost their opening game to Hunterstown a week earlier, were leading by 1-5 to 0-4 at halftime.

ST. PATRICK'S 3-14

LANNLEIRE 1-5

St. Patrick's made it three points from two outings inside five days after overcoming Lannleire in Group 4 of the Paddy Sheelan Cup.

Conor McGuinness was the star of the show for the Lordship side as he chipped in with a personal tally of 1-7.

St. Pats made the perfect start when Tadhg O'Connor had the ball in the net inside the first minute and that score helped his side ease into a 1-5 to 0-3 lead at the interval, with Paul Callan among the points for Lannleire in reply.

The Dunleer side got back into the game with a goal just after the restart from Alex Carroll but the peninsula side settled themselves with points from Eoin O'Connor and Daniel O'Connor.

Goals from Aidan McCann and McGuinness put the game beyond Lannleire as the Pats completed victory with late points from Martin McEneaney and Matt Pagni.
