Ireland coach John O'Shea links up with Wayne Rooney in new club role

Wayne Rooney has agreed to become Birmingham City's new manager.

The former England skipper replaces ex-Ireland assistant John Eustace at St Andrew’s after leaving DC United last week.

Rooney, who was Derby boss between November 2020 and June 2022, has added Waterford man John O’Shea and Ashley Cole to his backroom staff.

O'Shea's FAI position will be unaffected by the appointment as he is expected to continue his coaching role with the Boys in Green.

Stephen Kenny's side host Greece at the Aviva Stadium this Friday before they travel to Faro to take on Gibraltar next Monday.
