Irish rugby star Aoife Wafer has been nominated for Player of the Round following her sensational performance in Ireland’s victory over Wales in the Guinness Women’s Six Nations.
The Wexford native was a dominant force throughout the match, producing a tireless display from No.8. She carried the ball 24 times - more than any other player on the pitch - and made a remarkable 175 metres, outpacing the entire Welsh forward pack combined.
Wafer also crossed the line twice to bag a brace of tries and was deservedly named Guinness Player of the Match.
Her performance has earned her a spot on the shortlist for Player of the Round, alongside standout names from England, France, and Italy.
Joining her on the list is England’s Claudia MacDonald, who ran in two tries and made over 180 metres with ball in hand during her side’s commanding win over Scotland. France’s Madoussou Fall Raclot also gets the nod after a powerful outing against Italy, racking up a game-high 24 tackles and earning Player of the Match honours.
Italy’s Silvia Turani rounds out the nominees after a try-scoring, hard-carrying shift in a narrow loss to the French.
