Cricket Club seek assistance in identifying photograph

While the current incarnation of Dundalk Cricket Club was founded in 2009 it is known that Co Louth has a rich cricketing history.

The original Dundalk Cricket Club was founded in 1853 and seems to have been active until the end of the 19th century. Other clubs also existed and were active in the 1860s, these were Drogheda CC, Louth County CC and Lisrenny CC.

The club recently received a photo that appears to show a Louth Cricket team from around the 1870s.

The photographic studio of J Galbraith had premises in Clanbrassil Street in the 1870s, as far as we know.

The lady who passed on the photograph to us knows nothing about it and was only able to tell us that her family have lived for many years in the Castlebellingham, Ardee and Tallanstown area.

The club are very keen to identify either the individuals in the photo or the name of the team and are appealing to anyone who may have knowledge on the history of the photographer to come forward, if anyone knows of any index or records it may help.
