THE Liby Dynamites Basketball Club will once again travel to Spain this summer to participate in the Santa Susanna Basketball Tournament.
Dynamites, having competed in the Barcelona Cup last year, where they narrowly lost out by one point to the eventual winners will once again take an U16 girls team to represent the North East Basketball region in Spain.
Players from Longford, Kells, Castleblayney, Killenkere and Dundalk will make up the team and training has got under way with two training sessions this month and a game against Ulster Elks already under their belt.
“Playing in these high class tournaments is something we as a club encourage for our players”, said Chairman of Liby Dynamites, Pat Campbell.
“Competing in these tournaments have raised the bar within the club. Player development and standards are raised and new ideas and friendships are discovered and formed”, he added.
Travelling with the U16 Girls will be the Liby Dynamites Senior Ladies team who will compete in the senior tournament. After finishing fourth in Ireland in the National Regional Final last weekend, the Dynamites players are confident they can find reward during their 10-day trip.
Player of the Year Emma Kearney will be looking to regain her fitness after damaging her ankle in training as will Orla Brennan who received a bad cut over her eye in the All Ireland Finals.
It has been a very successful season for Dynamites with their U18 Girls team winning the North East Basketball League at their first attempt and all of the other club sides finishing in the top four play-off positions.
Dynamites will prepare for next season when their U13 girls team take up an invitation by Basketball Northern Ireland to play in Belfast in a two day tournament on the June bank holiday weekend.
Preparations are already being put in place for next year’s leagues and anyone who wishes to join or try out for Liby Dynamites can register by visiting www.libydynamites.com or visit our Facebook page for more details.
