POINT Road pool shark Brendan Traynor will captain the Irish Colleges Pool team in a major international event in Manchester in April.
The Home International Pool Competition consists of top pool players from colleges in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland, competing for the prestigious title.
The five-man Irish side are current holders of the title and according to Brendan would be narrow favourites ahead of England this time around.
“We’ve a stronger side than last year, so I would say we’ll go in as favourites, but England are going to be tough.”
Brendan is currently in his degree year in DkIT studying Business and is also due to take part in a similar competition for snooker top players in the near future.
The Higher Education Snooker and Pool Council are helping to fund the Irish team this year. Brendan plays most of his pool in the college however he also competes for Blackrock pub Harrisons in the local pool league.
“I hope the interest in this competition will draw more attention to the local league as well, as it is only starting up and needs some support.”
