Dundalk FC 4-2 Cabinteely FC
Ronan Murray and Stephen Folan scored on debut as Dundalk FC got their pre-season schedule off to a winning start with victory over Cabinteely at Oriel Park tonight.
The former Galway United pair struck in the first-half to twice put the Lilywhites into the lead on a night where Lithuanian international Karolis Chvedukas also made his first-team bow.
Conor Early levelled matters on both occasions before the break, however, Cabo's charge was ended in the second-half as the outstanding Michael Duffy and Dylan Connolly finished neatly past visiting 'keeper Jack Menton.
Indeed, the hosts' took each of their goals fabulously. From Murray rifling in off the post in the fifth minute to Folan's looping header to Duffy's teasing run and exquisite finding of the far corner and finally Connolly's clipped finish from the edge of the area; Dundalk's attack looks to be in rude health.
Cabo's first equaliser came in a rare breakout when Early's free-kick found the bottom corner. However, from the home side's point-of-view, the second concession could prove particularly costly as a clash between Brian Gartland and custodian Gary Rogers, which tripped Dean Casey for the spot-kick awarding, resulted in the latter having to leave the field through injury.
On trial, striker Jeff McGowan worked hard in fighting a lonesome battle, while Murray and Connolly combined for some neat passages of play. Though, as was the case for so much of last season, Duffy provided the touch of class.
