ALERT! Irish parents warned of strangulation risk as major retailers recall kid's clothes

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has issued a warning to parents across Ireland as major retailers Next and Marks and Spencer have recalled popular children's clothes amid fears of cuts, injuries, and more seriously, strangulation. 

Next Retail Ltd is carrying out a recall of Boden Wide Leg Trousers/Jeans.

The risk presented by this product is cuts and injuries. Cracked poppers at the waist side can develop sharp edges, which may cause cuts to fingers or legs during wear.

The brand is Boden. Products with the following PO numbers are affected:

  • G5531 MDN – 660046, 660050, 660604
  • G5531 DDN – 662354, 662355
  • G5531 PNK – 663497
  • G4865 MDN – 661419, 662938
  • G4865 DEN – 663091

The following sizes are affected: SIZES 2 – 3Y, 3 – 4Y, 4 – 5Y, 5 – 6Y and 7 – 8Y.

There are approximately 11 affected products in the Republic of Ireland.

What to do:

If you purchased one of these products, please discontinue use immediately and keep it out of the reach of children.

To check if your product is affected, refer to the PO number on the care label. P.O. numbers can be found at the top of the first page of the care label which is on the lefthand side as worn.

For a full refund, you can either return your item through the Boden Returns Portal by following the steps provided, or contact Next directly.

Marks and Spencer is carrying out a recall of Marks and Spencer Stripe 2.5 Tog Sleeping Bag.

The risk associated with the product is strangulation as the neck opening of the product is generally smaller than the recommended specification.

The brand is Marks and Spencer. The affected products are sizes 0-6 months, 6-18 months, and 18-36 months. The model number is T92/4648S. The serial number is 04603.

The barcodes are as follows:

• T92/4648S/ Blue mix / 0-6m/ 9927667
• T92/4648S/ Blue mix / 6-18m/ 9930230
• T92/4648S/ Blue mix / 18-36m/ 9944855

The affected products were on sale from August 2025.

There are approximately 38 affected products in the Republic of Ireland.

What to do:

Customers should stop using the product immediately and keep out of the reach of children.

Customers can return the product to their nearest Marks and Spencer store to receive a full refund.
