Good news for consumers as major Irish retailer announces price cut for household staple

Lidl Ireland has announced an immediate price reduction on milk, lowering the cost of a 2-litre carton from €2.45 to €2.35.

They are the first retailer in Ireland to reduce the price of milk since 2023, following two years of significant price fluctuations driven by rising production costs.

The price cut applies to Lidl’s range of 12 milk products and is expected to return around €2.9 million in savings to consumers nationwide.

This price reduction is a part of their €20 million investment in price reductions on over 300 Lidl products, including pasta, cereals, convenience meals, nappies, and pet food.

On this announcement Robert Ryan, Chief Executive Officer of Lidl Ireland & Northern Ireland said: “At Lidl, our core commitment to our customers has always been that we won’t be beaten on price."

He continued: "We understand that rising inflation and the cost-of-living crisis has posed significant challenges for our shoppers as well as our suppliers in recent years. To deliver on this commitment we are consistently looking for ways to increase efficiencies and reduce costs in our own operations to help absorb external pressures as much as possible.”

Ryan reaffirmed Lidl’s ongoing commitment to lowering prices for consumers, saying: “This price drop represents a significant investment, but we are determined to support our loyal shoppers and reduce prices on the products that matter most. It demonstrates our commitment to always being the best-value retailer in the country, and our customers will continue to see further price drops in the coming months.”

He added that supporting local producers remains central to Lidl’s approach: “All our milk is sourced in Ireland, and we take great pride in bringing locally sourced, quality milk at the best value on the market to households across Ireland.”
