Country music icon Sandy Kelly was moved to tears as she was inducted into the Irish Country Music Hall of Fame during The Late Late Show’s special country episode. Surprised on stage with a montage celebrating her 50 year career, Kelly dedicated the honour to her fans, family, and fellow musicians.
Speaking to host Patrick Kielty, she reflected, "I couldn’t understand why they were bringing in all the lights… it’s very emotional because it’s such an honour to be recognised by everybody." Kelly recalled her early career performing in family shows and her special connection with the legendary Carter Family in the U.S., which she says shaped her path in country music.
She was joined in studio by fellow Hall of Fame inductees Declan Nerney, Susan McCann, Philomena Begley, and Daniel O'Donnell, with the group sharing stories, laughs, and reflections on their decades-long careers.
