'Did he eat the dashboard?': Gardaí 'make no apologies' after seizing rogue car

Gardaí in Kilkenny have seized a car with what appears to be a plastic bag attaching the steering wheel to a broken dashboard.

The driver was found to have no tax, no NCT [National Car Test], or insurance on their person while they were driving around Johnston.

The Gardaí said the driving was done "with impunity" and the driver now has a date in court.

The owner was previously disqualified from driving, according to the Gardaí's social media post.

A commenter said: "Did he eat the dashboard?", to which Kilkenny Gardaí replied, "We do not speculate".

Another stated: "I can't understand how disqualified drivers don't have to hand over licence at court when convicted."

A fellow netizen said: "Can ye do the same patrols in Piltown, the place is like a race track most nights".

The full social media post by the Gardaí read: "We make no aPOLOgies."

"Kilkenny RPU [Road Policing Unit] responded to reports locally of a VW with no tax, test or insurance driving around Johnstown with impunity. The owner who is a disqualified driver now has a date in court, vehicle seized."
