Pedestrian dies after she was struck by lorry in Co Mayo

A woman aged in her 60s has died after she was struck by a lorry in Co Mayo on Thursday morning.

The incident happened on the Rathbawn Road in Castlebar shortly before 10am.

The pedestrian, a woman aged her 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the lorry has been taken to hospital for treatment.

The road was closed for technical examination by Garda forensic collision investigators which is now completed.

The road has reopened.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling in the area between 9.30am and 10.00am are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardai.
