SHOCKING: Dad on e-scooter with two kids onboard clocked doing double the speed limit

Gardaí have seized two e-scooters after spotting the drivers travelling well above the speed limit, with one of the two drivers being a father with his two young children onboard the scooter.

Officers from Store Street Garda Station were on patrol when they spotted two scooters travelling at "high speed" on the Luas tracks and moved to stop them.

According to the Road Safety Authority (RSA), Under new laws introduced last year e-scooter users must be 16 years or older, obey a speed limit of 20km/h, drive on the left (in cycle or bus lanes and on local, regional or national roads), and have lights, a bell or audible warning device, reflectors and brakes.

E-scooter users must not use footpaths, pedestrianised areas or motorways, hold or use a mobile phone, have a seat on their e-scooter, or carry passengers or goods.

Gardaí clocked one of the scooter drivers, a father with his two young children onboard, doing over double the limit at a speed of 45km/h.

The second driver was caught going even faster - almost three times the speed limit - when gardaí observed him travelling at 55km/h.

"Both scooters were safely stopped, and seized from their owners," gardaí confirmed before adding: "Court is now to follow."
