Gardaí have seized an untaxed van after spotting the driver using their phone while behind the wheel on the M50.

While patrolling the M50 motorway in Dublin, eagle-eyed gardaí spotted the driver using their phone and moved to stop the van.

Once stopped, gardaí discovered that the van hadn't been taxed in over 1,000 days, which equates to almost three years.

The driver was issued a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice (FCPN), and the van was seized.

The driver now faces court proceedings.

In a post on social media, gardai said: "We were on patrol on the M50 when we saw this driver using their phone.

"We stopped them and it was found that their car had no tax for over 1000 days.

"The van was seize and a FCPN was issued to the driver. Court to follow."
