Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a 'serious' hit-and-run incident that resulted in a gardai being treated in hospital.
The alarm was raised shortly before 10am on Saturday after emergency services were alerted to a serious traffic collision on the N72 at Spa Glen, Mallow, County Cork.
"An unmarked garda car was struck by a passing car, resulting in injuries to the sole occupant, a male Garda in his 40s. The injured garda was transported to Cork University Hospital by ambulance for treatment. He has since been discharged," said a garda spokesperson.
The occupants of the second vehicle fled the scene on foot and the driver of that vehicle has yet to come forward.

Investigating gardaí have conducted a technical examination of the scene and both cars involved and the road has since fully reopened to traffic.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing and gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.
In addition, road users who may have dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incident are also urged to contact gardaí and to make any footage available.
