A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man in his 50s was found dead at an apartment in Co Kildare.
The incident occurred in School Street, Kilcock, between 3pm and 4pm on Thursday.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body remained at the scene on Thursday night.
The scene has been preserved pending an examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out on Friday morning at the mortuary at Naas General Hospital by state pathologist Sally Ann Collis.
A senior investigating officer is leading the investigation at Leixlip Garda Station and a family liaison officer has been appointed to the family of the dead man.
The arrested man, in his 40s, is being detained at a Garda station in Kildare, gardai said.
Gardai are appealing to anyone who was in the School Street area between 3pm and 4pm and saw any activity that caught their attention to come forward.
Any road users who may have camera footage from the vicinity of School Street at the time are also asked to make the footage available to gardai.
