WARNING: Thunderstorms and hail could batter Ireland as Storm Debi continues

Thunderstorms and hail could batter Ireland today (November 13) as Storm Debi continues. 

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow warning for the whole country, following the release of a sudden Status Red warning yesterday as the storm hit the country. 

A Status Red warning is the highest warning level that can be issued as it has the potential to cause structural damage. 

A large amount of damage has occurred overnight, with flooding in many counties including extensive flooding in Galway. 

Hazardous road conditions can be expected to continue this morning and afternoon, with very windy or stormy weather expected, accompanied by heavy rain with a chance of thunderstorms and hail. 

Possible impacts include fallen trees and branches, localised flooding including wave overtopping and hazardous travelling conditions. 

Elsewhere, a Status Orange storm warning has been issued fom Belfast Lough to Carlingford Lough to Wicklow Head and on the Irish Sea. 

It is valid from 5am until 2pm today.
