'Did you see him?' - Irish writer appeals for information on his missing 81-year-old father

An Irish journalist is appealing for information on the whereabouts of his missing 81-year-old father.

Derek Scally - an Irish Times Berlin correspondent who authored 'The Best Catholics in the World' - posted an appeal on Twitter yesterday (May 10) to find his father, who was last seen on the morning of Wednesday May 3, 2023.

In the post, he said, "My Dad, Joe Scally, went missing a week ago in Dublin. Last seen 1:20pm in Howth, passing The Summit Inn on foot. Were you there? Did you see him?"

Gardaí recently renewed their appeal to the public for assistance in finding Joe, who is missing from the Tonlegee Road area of Raheny, Dublin 5.

Joe - who wears a hearing aid - is described as approximately 5’ 11" in height, of strong build, clean shaven with short grey hair and blue eyes.

When last seen, he was wearing a black puffer jacket and dark coloured trousers (photograph below).

Gardaí have a reported sighting of Joe on the afternoon of Wednesday May 3, 2023 walking in the direction of Howth Summit.

Anyone who may have seen Joe or have information on his whereabouts is asked to contact Coolock Garda Station 01 666 4200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
