Naomh Fionnbarra 3-10 Wolfe Tones 0-12

Naimh Fionnbarra bounced back from their defeat to neighbours O’Connell’s by recording a second Division 3 victory over Wolfe Tones at home on Saturday.

It was the home side who drew first blood after three minutes when Niall McCreesh won a penalty which Ciarán Murphy fired to the net.

Wolfe Tones responded quickly with a point from corner forward Eoghan Brennan, who had an impressive outing, but the Barrs continued to push forward.

Ciaran Markey, Jack Murtagh and Ciaran Murphy all chipped in with scores as their side went into the break with a 1-4 to 0-6 lead.

The Tones came out in the second half with intent and kept themselves in contention on a night when Killian McLoughlin, Mark Healy and Sam Kelly were on target, but their efforts to make a bigger impression were thwarted by some strong defending.

At the other end, substitute Cillian McQuillan was beginning to make his mark on the scoreboard, while Niall McCreesh added a second goal to give the hosts breathing space.

Annaghminnon Rovers remain top of the Division 3 table after chalking up a third consecutive win in Dowdallshill on Saturday evening.

Despite the defeat, there was some consolation for the St Brigid’s Park outfit in that they turned in an improved performance in both defence and attack, after two very difficult opening fixtures.

Rory Phelan did most of the damage for the visitors as he finished with 1-9, while James O’Connor chipped in with 1-4.

Dwayne Markey got the visitors up and running with an early two-pointer, and they had O’Connor and Phelan among the scores before O’Connor scored the first goal of the game. Just before the break, Phelan added the second to make it 2-15 to no score at the short whistle.

O’Connells 3-10 Westerns 3-7

O’Connells continue to lead the way in Division 3 on score difference after coming through a tough battle with Westerns in Reaghstown on Saturday.

The men from The Grove were strongly fancied going into the game but were made to fight all the way by a determined Westerns side who will be disappointed not to have taken something from the fixture.

Westerns had lost both their opening fixtures but put in a fine showing over the hour in a game that was close throughout.

Their reward came in the form of goals from Jack Martin and Oisin Drumgoole in the opening half as they turned around trailing by just 1-7 to 2-3.

Martin added his second goal after the restart, while Killian Crosbie added two points, but in the end, the O’Connells did just enough to secure a three-point victory.

Westerns: Anthony Durnin; Ryan Duffy, Colin Martin, Joe Murphy; Roan Gallagher, Adam Duffy, Finn Duffy; Mick Martin, Matthew Kane; Patrick Kerley, Cathal Kennedy, Emmet Smith 0-1; Killian Crosbie 0-3, Jack Martin 3-3, Oisin Drumgoole 1-0.
