Annaghminnon Rovers 2-10 Nh Malachi 2-9

Annaghminnon Rovers made it two wins from two with a victory over Naomh Malachi in Louth GAA John O'Neill Sand and Gravel Division Three League on Wednesday night.

The game in Stonetown saw the hosts overcome a seven-point interval deficit before claiming victory in what proved to be an entertaining encounter.

The Mals went into the game seeking their first win of the campaign and turned in a solid opening half display as two goals from Conor Nicholason saw them lead by 2-5 to 0-4 at the break.

However, the game turned early in the second half when the visitors were reduced to 14 men, while Dwayne Markey found the net from a penalty to put his team right back in contention.

Points from Collie Rooney kept the scoreboard ticking over for the Mals, but an own goal following a goalmouth scramble helped Rovers keep in touch.

A late Markey point edged his side ahead while the Courtbane men had a chance to level things in the dying seconds, only to see an effort drift wide.

O’Connell’s 2-14 Naomh Fionnbarra 1-15

O’Connell’s avenged their defeat in the Kevin Mullen Plate Final when they scored a two-point victory over neighbours Nh Fionnbarra at The Grove on Saturday.

O’Connell’s won the pre-match toss and opted to play with the strong wind in the first half, and this proved decisive as Robert Quigley scored the first five points, including two two-pointers inside five minutes.

Conor Osborne stopped the home team’s momentum with a very well-taken score against the wind.

This, however, only temporarily stopped the flow as the O’Connell’s full forward Niall Conlon swung over a sideline ball from the right-hand side for another two-pointer.

Things got even worse when, from the resulting kickout, the Castlebellingham men worked the ball forward to Bernard Osborne, who duly dispatched it into the far corner to make it 1-7 to 0-1.

The Barrs hit back with scores from Ciaran Markey (2) and Collie McGrane before Niall McCreesh found the net to cut the gap to four. However, the hosts regained control before the break with a Jackie Agnew goal to lead by 2-11 to 1-4.

With the wind in their backs, the Togher men began to reduce the lead with the help of points from Cillian McQuillan, Hugh Osborne and Markey, but the other end, the O’Connells maintained the lead with points from Cailum Woods and Agnew.

The Barrs piled on the pressure and had two-pointers from McQuillan and Stephen O’Reilly, but despite intense pressure, they were denied the goal they needed by the crossbar and a fine save from Jonathan Brennan to ensure the Bellingham side held out for a two-point win.

O’Connell’s: Johnathan Brennan; Nathan Carragher, Jack McGeough, James Walsh; Joshua Horwell, Stuart Osborne, Conor Culligan; Cailum Woods (0-1), Sean Cairns; Jackie Agnew (1-3), Robert Quigley (0-5), Rian McKeever; Justin Cooney, Niall Conlon (0-4), Bernard Osborne (1-1).

Clan na Gael 6-16 Sean McDermotts 1-13

Clan na Gael got off the mark in Division 3 in emphatic fashion thanks to a victory over Sean McDermotts in a high-scoring encounter in Dundalk on Saturday evening.

It was certainly a night to remember for Liam O’Hanlon, who scored five of the Clans' goals and also contributed four points in an impressive personal display.

By the time the half-time whistle sounded, O’Hanlon had already bagged a hat-trick while Mark Newell also raised a green flag as the hosts established a 4-4 to 0-11 advantage.

Daniel Commins was doing his best to keep the Seans in contention on a night when he finished with eight points, including two two-pointers.

O’Hanlon added two more goals in the second half while Jason Cullen was in fine point-scoring form as he finished with six to his credit, with Robbie Curran and Jack Callan also on target.

Emmett Duffy found the net for the McDermotts, but they found scores hard to come by as Clans eased to victory. Kevin McMahon came off the bench to land three points in a game where Cormac Walsh scored a two-pointer.

Lannleire made it back-to-back wins in Division 3 as they came out on top against Glyde Rangers in Tallanstown on Saturday evening.

Glyde went into the game hoping to build on their opening day win, but their hopes were hampered when they had to field without several regulars. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to deny the Dunleer men victory.

There wasn’t a lot to choose between the teams in the first half, but it was Lannleire who turned around with a 1-6 to 0-6 advantage after Brendan Cassidy scored the only goal of the game.

The second period saw Lannleire remain in control, with Killian Gregory’s five points proving crucial in the victory. Darragh Malone, Clin Murphy, Ian Mulroy and Bob Murphy all contributed vital points.

Olin Crosbie did his best to inspire the hosts as he landed seven points, while Oisin Lynch and Cormac Lundun were also on the scoresheet.

St Nicholas 1-8 Cuchulainn Gaels 1-8

Larry Brennan scored a late point to give Cuchulainn Gaels a share of the spoils in this Division 3 clash in Drogheda on Saturday evening.

The home side looked to be on course for their second win of the campaign when they led by three points entering the closing stages.

However, the Omeath men refused to give up hope and battled back with two points before Brennan landed the equaliser.

It could have been even better for the visitors as they had time to create one more chance, but saw the effort go narrowly wide.

Gaels had the better of the opening half, and it was a goal from Adam Sharkey that saw them rewarded with a 1-5 to 0-4 lead.

The Nicks upped the pace in the second half, and a goal from Sam Reilly and points from Paudi Downey saw them take control of the game. However, they were unable to kill off the Cuchulainn challenge and had to settle for a draw.

David McQuaid, Aodhan O’Hanlon and James Sharkey were also on target for Gaels, while Hayden Quinn and Ruairi Hanlon were among the points for the Nicks.

Na Piarsaigh Blackrock 1-12 Westerns 0-7

Na Piarsaigh Blackrock bounced back from their defeat to Nh Fionnbarra in round one as a dominant first-half performance helped them claim victory.

Both sides went into the game in Dundalk hoping for a first win of the season, but it was the home side who had the ace in the pack in the form of Robert Murphy, who finished the night with a match-winning tally of 1-5.

The goal came just before the break in an opening half dominated by the Naps, who made good use of the wind advantage. Joe Woods, Tommy Muckian, Paul Mallon, Jamie Fealy and Fionn Tipping were also on target as the hosts turned around with a 1-10 to 0-2 lead.

Not surprisingly, it was the Westerns who dominated the possession in the second half, and they pulled back five points, but Na Piarsaigh managed to add two points to their tally as they secured an important win.
