Louth senior hurlers delivered a top-class performance this afternoon at the GAA Centre of Excellence in Abbotstown, defeating Lancashire 0-30 to 2-10 in their Allianz National Hurling League Division 4, Round 5 clash.

Among the standout performers was forward Conor Murphy, who contributed six points in an impressive individual display.

Speaking after the game, Murphy reflected on the team’s performance and how everything clicked on the day.

He said: “We have been going well. We’ve been flat-out training. We have been happy with training and played well there and we just haven’t really shown it.

“We have shown it in spells and have had good halves in every game but haven’t put a full performance together.

“The pitch was class out there today and the conditions were perfect so it sort of suited us for a good go today and see what we are made of. We were happy enough in the end. 30 points is a good score.”

Murphy was pleased with his own performance, bouncing back after a subpar outing the previous week.

“I was happy with enough. I was poor last week and the boys had a few words so it was just about getting my head up and getting the shots off when they were on,” he admitted.

“Things opened up in the first half and I was able to get a few shots away. We were moving well in the half-forward line.”

With Louth setting a high standard for themselves in Division 4, Murphy stated that their goal from the start of the season was to put in high performances at this level.

“That was the plan at the start of the year. We didn’t want to be the underdogs this year. We came down last year so the plan was to put the foot down from the start.

“To try and win every match and get two points, that was the main goal. Every game we go out for two points. It was a bit of a setback last week but hopefully that is back on track now.”

The Wee County now turn their focus to Longford in the final league game next week. Murphy is eager to keep the momentum going.

“We are looking forward to the quick turnaround again. We had the week off and it sort of slowed us down a wee bit sowen are happy to keep the games rolling now.

“When we are playing like that it is good to keep training hard and hopefully keep performing well.”

Despite a slight setback last week with a draw against Leitrim, Louth remain unbeaten in the league. Murphy spoke of the importance of keeping that run going.

“That is the thing. Silly blips along the way like picking up a loss last week might have set us back but we were able to claw a point out of it.

“It just kept the momentum going and we were able to build again this week now and keep it unbeaten. That is important too.”
