Louth senior hurlers will aim to return to winning ways this Saturday as they take on Lancashire in Round 5 of the Allianz National Hurling League, Division 4.

The game takes place at the GAA Centre of Excellence in Abbotstown, with throw-in set for 2.00 pm.

Trevor Hilliard’s side started the league in flying form having won their first three games in impressive fashion. Victories over Fermanagh, Monaghan, and Warwickshire put them in control of the Division 4 table.

However, they had their momentum halted last weekend when they played out a draw against Leitrim, finishing 0-13 to 1-10.

Now, with promotion still very much in their hands, the Wee County will be eager to get back to winning ways and cement their place at the top.

On the other hand, Lancashire have struggled for consistency having played out a thrilling 3-12 to 1-18 draw against Warwickshire in their opener but suffered narrow defeats to Longford and Leitrim in the following rounds.

They will see this as an opportunity to turn their season around, but the Reds will be determined to ensure that doesn’t happen.

Hilliard has made just one change to the team that started against Leitrim with Naomh Moninne defender Seán Flynn comes into squad in place of Andrew Smyth.

Otherwise, it’s a familiar lineup for Louth, with goalkeeper Conor Clancy captaining the side and key players like Darren Geoghegan and Conor Murphy expected to play a big role in attack.

Louth Starting 15: Conor Clancy (c); 2. James Byrne, 3. Conor Quigley, 4. Stephen Kettle; 5. Mark Gahan, 6. Leon Fox, 7. Aaron McGuinness; 8. Ben Goss-Kieran, 9. Peter Fortune; 10. Adam Plunkett, 11. Seán Flynn, 12. Darren Geoghegan; 13. John Casey, 14. Conor Murphy, 15. James Costello.

With Louth leading the way in Division 4, a win against Lancs would put them in prime position for promotion. Lancashire, however, will be fighting for pride and a chance to climb up the standings.

Referee Conor Doyle from Tipperary will take charge of proceedings.
