Archers from CúChulainn were in action at Muckamore Company of Archers Portsmouth Competition in Moira, Co. Down at the weekend. Competing for the Louth archers were Neil Keeble, JoAnn Bell, Peter Gilmore, Siobhán Keeble, Paul McClelland and Robert Hall.
The competition was shot over two days with a very good showing by the club's archers. Neil Keeble, Barebow's senior man, continued his good form, taking the Gold Medal and shooting a new Northern Irish Record for the Portsmouth Round!
JoAnn Bell, Master Female Compound won Gold, as Paul McClelland, Master Male Compound, secured Silver. Siobhan Keeble Master Barebow female, picked up Gold and with a Personal Best score.
Peter Gilmore, Barebow Mastermen, won Bronze, while Robert Hall, Compound Senior men, finished with Bronze too. A good result for the start of the Indoor Season.
Also involved in another activity for the betterment of the club, all available archers and coaches turned up at the O'Raghallaigh's GAA club in Drogheda on Saturday.
This is the new venue for CúChulainn Archers to meet, along with the Redeemer Centre in Dundalk. The occasion was a 'Have—a—Go' session for people whose names were on the Beginner Course list.
Quite a queue developed with almost 50 people of all ages lining up for the session. However, with all the coaches in attendance along with archers directing the eager, 'soon-to-be archers' to the coaching line, all went very well and everyone got their chance to try archery and speak to the coaches.
There were also some who turned up with archery equipment who hadn't trained in years and were delighted to find an archery club now on their doorstep and eager to sign up.
It was a very busy weekend for all the club. CúChulainn Archers are looking forward to meeting the people on the Beginner Course again, shortly, to start them on their way in the ancient sport of archery!
