What a fantastic weekend’s golf at Mannan Castle Golf Club, of course for some the golf was better than others, the scores over the weekend were absolutely fabulous.
Thanks to all the members who really supported this year’s Club Classic, to the visitor who came we hope you enjoyed and of course a big thanks to our sponsors.
Not everyone can make it to the presentation, so the Prize Winners who weren’t at the presentation don’t forget to collect your prize. Thanks to Brian Ruddin and his staff from Cordielia’s Mobile Outdoor Service who kept everyone fed from early Friday until late on Sunday night.
The winning team from neighbouring Ardee Golf Club had a fantastic score of 104pts well done, Noel Gaynor, Jim McLoughlin, Joe Daly and William Gilsenan winning the dual Air fryers. On their heel where Paul Heavey, Tony Byrne, Liam Kenny, and Tom Lynch with 103pts.
There were three teams on 102 points, but it was Michael Martin, Jack Martin, Michael Martin (Snr) and Joe Quigley who finish in third place with 52 point on the back nine.
It was great to see a good few non GUI members playing over the weekend, hopefully these guys will get the golf bug and join a club. Congratulations to all the winners, there was over 14 prizes to give out. Thank you for making the weekend a great success.

Mannan Castle Seniors
Mannan Castle golf course was resplendent under clear blue skies as the seniors gathered for their weekly competition. Played over 13 holes the scoring matched the glorious weather even though some of the pin positions would have challenged the professionals.
Leading card returned on the day was by Ken Murray. After a slight blip on the second he bounced back immediately on the par 3 third with a birdie 2. Thereafter he was error free and a couple of pars resulted in him signing for 31 points and victory in Category 2.
In Category 1 Patsy Hoey made light work of his 2 point penalty for last week's win by prevailing on countback over Kieran Crozier with a nett score of 24 points. Highlight of his round was a birdie two on the 1st hole.
Sam Duffy was also subject to a penalty for previous wins. His 29 points was comfortably the best in category 4. There were six holes where he earned 3 points which compensated for a few poor holes.
In Category 3 Ciaran Hand had the third best score of the day in his win. Ciaran also had six 3 pointers on his card with pars on three of these. A score of 28 points was an excellent result.
Result Tuesday 17th September
Category 1: Patsy Hoey (10) 24pts(26-2) c/b (Kieran Crozier); Category 2: Ken Murray (20) 31pts; Category 3: Ciaran Hand (24) 28pts; Category 4: Sam Duffy (31) 28pts (29-1).
Mannan Castle Ladies
Pauline Jones had another exceptional day in this week's competition, shooting numbers a golfer with half the handicap would be pleased with. Getting off to a great start with a par on the first and scoring on every hole thereafter, Pauline ended her round with 40 points to win by three.
From one of our newest members to one who was there in the earliest Mannan days, Maureen Crawley is playing as good a golf as ever. A couple of pars and a lovely birdie on the 12th high points in her round to finish with 37 points was enough for second place.
Four pars on the back nine and a nice birdie on the 8th helped Siobhan Hand to her total of 36 points to finish in third place on countback from one other player.
It was an excellent golfing week for Siobhan, who also won the Monday 9 hole competition with 19 points on countback from Jackie Edwards, who also scored 19 points.
