Mannan Castle Seniors
Last Tuesday's 9 hole competition was played in dry but windy conditions with a good turnout of seniors. Scoring was up to the usual standard with great scores returned by Patsy Hoey and Seamus Geoghegan.
Patsy got off to a steady start and was two over par after three holes. However he then let loose and played the next six holes in even par to finish at two over gross and a nett score of 21 points.
He was the easy and deserved winner of Category 1. Seamus in contrast got off to a flying start accumulating 10 points for his first three holes.
His play thereafter was steady and apart from a slight blip on the last was good enough to add 11 points to his great start. His 21 points was a clear winner of Category 4.
In Category 2 Thomas Gartlan had a very good round apart from an error on hole sixteen. The highlight was a run of three pars in his first four holes. His 19 point total was comfortably the best in his category.
Category 3 saw good friends and normal playing partners Jim Hanratty and Sean Harvey slog it out. Jim eventually prevailed on countback thanks to steady scoring while Sean's round was a tale of many ups and downs.
Category 1: Patsy Hoey (5) 21pts; Category 2: Thomas Gartlan (10)19pts; Category 3: Jim Hanratty (12)18pts c/b (Sean Harvey); Category 4: Seamus Geoghegan (17) 21pts.
Mannan Castle Ladies
Two ladies score an impressive 20 points in the nine hole competition on Monday, both parred the first hole which not always a good thing to do!
It was Kitty Sharkey who took first place, parring five holes, this woman continues to inspire us all. On her heel was Madeleine Devine but had to settle for second place.
18 hole stableford sponsored by XL Inniskeen - 1st Brigit Mulvihill 42pts; 2nd Angela McBride 35pts; 3rd Angela Evers 34pts.
Monday Nine hole Competition - 9th Sept 2024 - 1st Kitty Sharkey (10) 20pts C/b; 2nd Madeleine Devine (9) 20ts. Marita Kiernan wins this week’s competition with a fantastic 39 points; may this win be the first of many.
Marita hits a mighty ball, and this lady enjoys the game, I’m sure we’ll se her name in the winners enclosure again soon. Playing steady golf this week and all season is Margaret Bourke who beat Marie McKeown on the breakdown, both ladies shot 38 points.
These lucky winners took the podium in the Sean Moriarty Transport Hamper competition, a huge thanks to Sean Moriarty for sponsoring this weeks competition.
It would be great to see more of our newer golfers play on a Wednesday. The handicap system evens the playing field and allows us all to compete, but the more competitive golf we play the better we get.
Thanks to Sean Moriarty Transport, Dundalk and Ann Moriarty for the lovely scones for the ladies who played in todays competition, a lovely touch and appreciated by all. http://www.moriartytransport.com/
