NH MALACHI 1-13
WESTERNS 1-12
Westerns missed the chance to increase their lead at the top of Division 3B when they lost out to Nh Malachi in Reaghstown on Tuesday evening.
When the sides met less than a week earlier in Courtbane, it was the Westerns who came out on top by eight points, but the Mals managed to avenge that defeat as they won by a single point.
Victory gives the Malachis renewed hope in the pursuit of the league title as they are now just two points adrift of the Reaghstown side and level with St Nicholas who have a game in hand.
The visitors settled into this game quickly and with Collie Rooney in good form in front of the posts, they established a 0-9 to 0-5 lead at the break.
The Westerns hit back in the second period and boosted by a Conor Kerr goal, along with points from James Maguire, Ciaran Scriven and Cillian Crosby, they were very much back in contention.
However, the Mals were not to be denied and a goal from Ronan McElroy proved crucial on a night when Conor Nicholson, Jason Clarke and Paudie Moley were on target.
NH MALACHI: Collie Rooney 0-5, Ronan McElroy 1-0, Jason Clarke 0-2, Conor Nicholson 0-2, Keelan Conlon, Matthew Campell, Pierce Carthy and Paudie Moley 0-1 each.
WESTERNS: Terry Sweeney; Micheal Martin, Ray Quinn, Conor McEllen; Finn Duffy, Cathal Kennedy, Patrick Kerley; Ryan Duffy 0-1, Dylan Ogle; James Maguire 0-5, Ciaran Scriven 0-3, Emmet Smith; Aidan McGarrell, Cillian Crosby 0-3, Anthony Durnin. Sub: Conor Kerr 1-0.

ST PATRICKS 0-6
St Mochtas continued their good run of form when they booked their place in the Paddy Sheelan Shield Final thanks to a comfortable win over St Patrick’s on Thursday night.
The Division 1 leaders turned in an impressive display at Pairc Eamoin, particularly in the second half as they struck three goals to blow away the Lordship side’s challenge. Jamie Farrell, Liam O’Flaherty and Conor Garland all found the net to see their side come out on top.
The Mochtas got off to a flying start and were 0-4 to 0-1 ahead inside five minutes. The Pats hit back and added to their tally through Danny O’Connor and Aidan McCann, but the visitors claimed the last four points of the half to lead by 0-9 to 0-3 at half time.
The Louth Village side turned the screw at the start of the second half as they added 1-3 without reply inside eight minutes to effectively end the game as a contest. McCann and O’Connor were on target for the Pats but two further goals put the icing on the cake for the visitors.

Micheal McCabe, Adam Sharkey and Cian McDonald were also on target but it wasn’t enough to get over the line. The Westerns will take on Glyde Rangers in the final on Saturday evening.
