Louth County Council has signed a contract with Mullacurry Construction for phase one of a major enhancement and extension project on the north bank of the Boyne Greenway in Drogheda.
Louth County Council has signed a contract for improvements on the north bank of the Boyne Greenway in Drogheda.
This contract was signed with award-winning Dromin based company, Mullacurry Construction.
Darren and David Byrne, Co-founders and Directors, Mullacurry Construction, said: “As a company based in County Louth, we take great pride in delivering infrastructure that benefits local communities, and we look forward to commencing works and helping to create an enhanced Boyne Greenway for residents and visitors to enjoy.”
The works will focus on upgrading approximately 950 metres of the existing route and will include new surfacing, fencing, drainage, public lighting, seating and bins.
Construction is scheduled to start in late September 2026, with the completion of phase one expected in early 2027.
Cllr Dolores Minogue, Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, said: “This project will build on the popularity of the existing Boyne Greenway, providing improved facilities for walkers, runners and cyclists while encouraging more people to enjoy the outdoors and the natural environment around them.”
In November 2025, the project received funding of €500,000 under Measure 3 of the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS), funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht.
This investment is in line with Louth County Council’s Tourism Strategy and Action Plan 2026-2031.
David Conway, Chief Executive of Louth County Council, said: “Supported through ORIS funding, the project aligns with our ambitions to promote active travel, improve quality of life for our communities and strengthen Louth's appeal as a destination for outdoor recreation and tourism.”
