Three men from the same family were served a Book of Evidence at Carrickamcross District Court relating to an alleged assault in which a shotgun was produced.

Thomas McCaughey Senior, Corrateen, Castlebalyney; Thomas McCaughey Jnr, Annalitten, Castleblayney; and Con McCaughey, Drumganus, Broomfield were all given an alibi warning by Judge Sean MacBride.

In the course of serving the addressed Thomas McCaughey Jnr, Judge MacBride read out the charge against him, namely that of assault causing harm and that he produced an article, to wit a shotgun, in a manner at was likely to cause fear.

When Thomas McCaughey Senior approached the bench, Judge McBride told him to take his hands out of his pockets and have some “manners”.

When he left the court Judge MacBride could still see him through the door and ordered the Gardaí to remove him from the court house, as he felt that he was challenging him through the door.

All three are alleged to have assaulted a man, hitting him with wooden planks. Their case will now be heard at the Circuit Court.
