It was a week that Tony Moran will never forget as he came across his stolen guitar in a local pawn shop.
The guitar, which is worth €1,000, was stolen in July 2013.Tony, who is from Avenue Road, couldn’t believe his eyes when he spotted the stolen Gibson SG 1961 guitar in a pawn shop in Dundalk.
In July 2013, good-hearted Tony supplied a number of guitars to the then Apple Tree Foundation for youth guitar lessons.
Tony, who has a keen interest in the instrument, built the donated guitars himself.
Tony and the team within the youth centre believed that two youths had stowed away within the building after it was locked-up and stole the guitar.

The guitar was brought into the local pawn store in September 2013 and it had been there since.
It is understood the thieves accepted an offer of €120 for the guitar, significantly lower than its actual value.
“I just couldn’t believe it,” Tony said, “I went into the store looking for a guitar stand and I spotted it.
“I informed the shop assistant and we contacted the Gardai who called down to the shop.
“It has specific marks so I was able to prove that it was mine and they gladly returned it to me.
“It was of sentimental value to me and I couldn’t stop playing it when I got home that evening.
“Apart from a few scratches, it was in perfect condition,” Tony said.
Tony kindly donated the guitar to the Dundalk Youth Centre.
