Blackrock woman Sophie Van Dijk recently revealed some of her kitchen tips on TV3’s television show Angeline’s Home Cooks which aired last Thursday, 11 September.

Presented by Angeline Ball, this innovative TV3 series will bring all the lost techniques and skills to homely dishes back in vogue.

In each episode, there will be two home cooks who share their recipes with two non-cooks.

Last week’s episode saw 23-year-old Sophie bestow some of her kitchen tips to the less kitchen-savvy non-cooks.

Sophie works as a junior buyer for ‘Meat, Fish & Poultry’ and is the youngest home cook to appear on the show.

Her love of cooking came from her two grandmothers, who taught Sophie many dishes over the years.

Sophie, who currently resides in Dun Laoghaire, visits her maternal granny in Dublin every week and they always cook together.

The recipe that Sophie taught the non-cooks is one passed down from her granny and is now part of a family tradition.

They cook it at home on Christmas Eve, making a big pot of Seafood Chowder and whoever turns up is treated to a bowl with a homemade brown scone.

Sophie was joined by fellow home cook Ruth from Clonmel, Co Tipperary and the two home cooks had enough kitchen knowledge between then to help out non-cooks Mairead Sharkey and Nicola Bannon.
