The residents of Belfry Garden s have been left in a heightened state of fear following last week’s home invasion style attack on restaurantaur Tim Wan and his family.

“All the residents are in a total state of shock,” Deputy Peter Fitzpatrick said.

“People are getting new CCTV and checking their alarms. It has really gottento people.”

Deputy Fitzpatrick who lives in the Belfry estate said he has spoken to Mr Wan but he fears any business owners who deal in cash could be at risk from what appears to be an organised and ruthless criminal gang.

“They could target any businesses who handle cash. I’ve run a business and at times during the week you would have cash.

“The people who did this came to the house on a Sunday evening, knowing they were in there.

“Those children and Doris (Mr Wan’s wife) could be scarred for life over this, and all over €3,000. “

Deputy Fitzpatrick has spoken to Mr Wan and his wife, who are understandably traumatised following the event.

“This gang obviously have no respect for anyone, inflicting this kind of pain and trauma. “
