Cooley Community Alert has purchased a SafeShel for An Garda Síochána in Carlingford/Omeath to support call-outs across the Cooley Peninsula, and which will complement the defibrillators they carry as standard, which were also donated by Cooley Cooley Community Alert.

A SafeShel is a rapidly inflating rescue shelter that grants immediate privacy and dignity to individuals. They are produced by Louth company, SafeShel.

CEO of SafeShel, Peter Larkin, said he is proud to see Cooley Peninsula Community Alert donating the SafeShel unit to An Garda Síochána in Carlingford and Omeath. As a decorated member of the coastguard he knows how important privacy can be in a emergency and that's why he created the product.

Michael Muckian, chairperson of Cooley Peninsula Community Alert said the unit will support call-outs across the Cooley Peninsula, providing Gardaí with a private, controlled space during incidents — helping to protect dignity and support responders on the ground, and having heard of its use in a recent emergency and the comfort it brought to the families involved to have privacy, they as a group were delighted to be in a position to purchase.

"We hope it shares as a fantastic example of community-led support making a real difference to local emergency response and perhaps other groups across the country may be able to do likewise", Mr Muckian commented.
