There was a fall last year in the number of theft and related offences recorded at Dunleer Garda Station, compared to 2024, according to the latest figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
32 incidents of theft and related offences were recorded in Dunleer in 2025, down from 56 in 2024, representing a fall of 42.9%.
It should be noted however, that the 56 incidents recorded in 2024 represented a significant increase on previous years, with 35 incidents recorded in the town in 2023, 38 in 2022, and 29 in 2021.
There was also a fall in the number of incidents of burglary and related offences recorded at Dunleer Garda Station last year, with 16 incidents recorded, down from 22 in 2024.
Another type of offence which saw a fall in the number of incidents recorded in Dunleer last year was damage to property and to the environment offences, with 14 incidents recorded, compared to 19 in 2024 and 23 in 2023.

There was a rise however in other type of offences recorded in Dunleer. Road and traffic offences rose last year, with 53 incidents recorded in 2025, compared to 43 in 2024.
21 public order and other social code offences were recorded in 2025, compared to 15 in 2024; and 48 dangerous or negligent acts were recorded in 2025, compared to 39 in 2024.
Nationally, the number of recorded crime incidents fell across most offence groups in 2025 compared with 2024. The most significant of these were Homicide & Related offences, down 25%; Kidnapping & Related offences, down 21%; Burglary & Related offences, down 13%; and Robbery, Extortion & Hijacking offences, down 11%.
Recorded crime incidents rose for some offence groups in 2025 with the largest rate of increase being for Weapons & Explosives offences, up 6%.
The number of recorded crime incidents fell across all Garda Regions for 5 of the 16 offence groups between 2024 and 2025. These were Homicide & Related offences, Robbery, Extortion & Hijacking offences, Sexual offences, Theft & Related offences, and Damage to Property & to the Environment.
The number of victims of crime incidents of Attempts/Threats to Murder, Assaults, Harassments & Related offences fell by 2% to 5,872 in Q4 2025 compared with Q4 2024. The number of male victims fell by 1% to 3,543 while the number of female victims fell by 4% to 2,329 in Q4 2025.
