The murals in Omeath after they were graffitied
North Louth group, Cooley Peninsula Community Alert, has said that “it was disgusting” to see murals in the village vandalised with graffiti.
Michael Muckian of Cooley Peninsula Community Alert said the group became aware on Saturday of vandalism to the murals, which were funded by locals.
The murals tell a story of the village, such as those on the main street depicting the fish sellers who used to land their catch in Omeath, before walking over the Long Woman's Grave to Dundalk and the market.
The group said it was “disgusting to see the graffiti” and that they, along with Omeath Tidy Towns were “delighted” to restore them, adding that local TD Ruairi O Murchu was in the area and helped out with the clean up.
Michael Muckian of Cooley Peninsula Community Alert said they are urging “anyone with information about the vandalism to contact the Gardai and remain vigilant as we want to ensure the village is shown in the best light as the important tourist season kicksoff”.

Omeath Tidy Towns stated that “it was incredibly disappointing to see such a terrible act of vandalism carried out on something that means so much to our village”.
