'Heartbreaking' - Louth mother devastated as Peppa Pig toys stolen from son's grave

The mother of an 11-year-old boy who passed away is pleading with the people who robbed a sentimental item from his grave in Dundalk to "leave it back." 

Colleen McNally, who lost her son Daragh to cancer in 2019, has expressed how she is "heartbroken" after discovering that a tree and Peppa Pig figurine were stolen from her son's grave. 

Daragh was diagnosed with cancer in 2019 and five and a half weeks later, he passed away in Cumberland Hospital, Colleen told the Claire Byrne Show on Newstalk.

When Daragh was buried, his family put some of his favourite things in with him and on the grave.

Two trees in big blue pots, along with some Peppa figurines, which were of great sentimental value to the family, were left with Daragh. 

"In the pots, we'd put his little figurines of Peppa Pig, he was Peppa's number one fan," Colleen explained.

However, last weekend while visiting her son, Colleen realised that one of the figurines and trees had been stolen.

"It's just so sad that you can't have something on your child's resting place… It’s heartbreaking," Colleen said.

She added that other people from the town have come forward to share that they have had items robbed from their loved ones' graves.

Colleen has a simple message for the people who robbed her son's grave.

"Just leave it back. You don't even have to say who you are - just leave it back," she urged.
