Louth saw fall in homeless numbers over Christmas latest figures show
Louth saw a fall in the number of homeless people accessing emergency accommodation over the Christmas period, according to the latest figures released by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
155 adults accessed local authority managed emergency accommodation during the week of 22-28 December 2025 in the North East region, down from 188 in November. Of the 155 adults: 132 were in Louth, down from 161 in November; and 23 were in Monaghan and Cavan combined, down from 10 in Monaghan and 17 in Cavan in November.
Of the 155 adults in December, 97 were male and 58 were female. 30 were aged 18-24 years old; 81 were aged 25-44; 37 were aged 45-64; and seven were 65 years old and over.
106 were Irish citizens; 23 were EEA/UK citizens; and 26 were non-EEA citizens.

18 families with 35 children accessed local authority managed emergency accommodation during the week of 22-28 December 2025 in the North East region. This is down from 26 families with 64 children in November.
Nationally, 11,546 adults and 5,188 children, giving a total of 16,734 people, were recorded as homeless in December. This is down 262 on the 16,996 recorded in November.
This figure that does not account for those rough sleeping, refugees, asylum seekers, individuals in domestic violence shelters, or those in hidden homelessness—people sleeping in cars, on couches, or in unsuitable living conditions.
