The NDP Sectoral Investment Plan involves a capital investment of €7.55bn in schools across the State, and the Youth Sector, for the 2026 to 2030 period. This investment is aimed at building on progress made over recent years and will support the operation of the school system and the Youth Sector with the necessary infrastructure and facilities for the years ahead.

News of the inclusion of six projects in Louth was welcomed by Louth Fianna Fáil TD Erin McGreehan, who said, "These works will provide better working conditions for the teachers, staff, and further enhance the learning experience of the students.

"These project ensure students have equal access to first class facilities, regardless of their abilities. These projects will go on to provide a supportive environment where they will allow students to excel, learn, and thrive.
"As a population we are well regarded for our high standard of education, and in Fianna Fáil we are committed to enhancing the learning experiences for our students nationwide, and ensuring they have access to first class facilities".
The news that a number of long-awaited school building projects in Drogheda have been green-lit in the government’s latest school building programme, was also welcomed by Louth Labour TD, Ged Nash   .

Deputy Nash explained: “Drogheda Educate Together Secondary School, St Mary’s and St Ita’s Special Schools and Marymount National School have all been listed as priority projects for 2026 and 2027.

“I have been especially close to the Drogheda Educate Together Secondary School project from the start and after the spending of countless millions on temporary accommodation I am delighted that the school has, after all these years, reached construction stage.”

Deputy Nash added: "I first secured the green light for a new amalgamated St. Ita's and St.Mary's Drumcar project in government in November 2015 and while this is in some way something of a reannouncement, the official nod for the vital next stage is very welcome, and a credit to the school board. This is a project that will be well worth the wait.”

On news that Marymount NS has finally been granted its new school building, Deputy Nash said: “There were very many false starts for the Marymount building and I am delighted that this vital new build that staff and students deserve, is finally over the line.”
