Louth County Council Litter Wardens carried out 161 investigations in December
There was a significant increase in the number of Fixed Penalty Notices issued in Louth in December, compared to the previous month, according to the latest figures released by Louth County Council.
Louth County Council's litter wardens completed 161 investigations in response to dumping reported by members of the public in December, with 24 Fixed Penalty Notices issued where evidence was found under the Litter Pollution Act 1997. This is up from November, when seven Fixed Penalty Notices were issued.
The Litter Enforcement section in Louth County Council also had two successful prosecutions from unpaid Fixed Penalty Notices to the amount of €1,150 in December.
The local authority said that its litter wardens continue to deal with all litter matters within the county daily, responding to complaints from members of the public, councillors and engaging with tidy towns groups and communities.
The Council's figures show that its Waste Enforcement team received and investigated 10 complaints in December, some of which remain open pending further investigations. 275 complaints in total were received by Louth County Council last year.

The local authority also reported that five bring banks in Dundalk received a revamp in December, at the Long Walk Carpark, the Brewery Carpark, the Tennis Club Carpark, Quay Street, and Castletown road.
