Louth homeless figures on the rise again

Louth homeless figures on the rise again

After seeing a slight fall in October, Louth, and the North East region, saw a rise in the number of people accessing emergency accommodation in November, according to the latest figures released by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

188 adults accessed local authority managed emergency accommodation during the week of 24-30 November 2025 in the North East region, up from 178 in October. Of the 188 adults in November, 161 were in Louth, up from 156 in September; 10 were in Monaghan and 17 were in Cavan, up from 22 in Monaghan and Cavan combined in October.

Of the 188 adults, 119 were male and 69 were female. 34 were aged 18-24 years old; 103 were aged 25-44; 43 were aged 45-64; and eight were aged 65 and over.

119 were Irish citizens, up from 115 in October; 28 were EEA/UK citizens, up from 26 in October; and 41 were were non-EEA citizens, up from 37 in October.

26 families, with 64 children also accessed local authority managed emergency accommodation during the week of 24-30 November 2025 in the North East region. This is up from 25 families with 59 children in October.

Nationally, 11,675 adults and 5,321 children, giving a total of 16,996 people were recorded as homeless in November. It is up from 16,766 in October, and yet another record high number of homeless people in the State. 

This figure that does not account for those rough sleeping, refugees, asylum seekers, individuals in domestic violence shelters, or those in hidden homelessness—people sleeping in cars, on couches, or in unsuitable living conditions.
