May 6th
The wedding day of local woman Caoimhe Malone and Marcin Pierzchalski saw the bride and groom make an extraordinary helicopter journey on their big day from Derry to Louth to ensure a special moment with Caoimhe’s mother Deirdre who was in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.

Glenveagh Properties plc has asked the High Court to overturn a recent decision by Louth councillors to dezone land in Haggardstown, that Glenveagh says “will block approximately 500 high-quality new homes”.

A strong and unpleasant odour lingering in parts of Dundalk prompted a wave of complaints from local residents, particularly those living along the Dublin Road and in the Dowdallshill area, was confirmed as the spreading of biosolids, a type of organic fertiliser derived from treated sewage sludge.

May 13th
The county was celebrating the Louth senior football team on their historic and hard-fought victory over Meath in the Leinster Senior Football Championship final at Croke Park on Sunday 11 May.
Led by captain Sam Mulroy, who finished the game with an impressive tally of 1-7, Ger Brennan’s side produced a superb display to run out 3-14 to 1-18 winners, bringing the Delaney Cup back to the Wee County for the first time in 68 years.

Four Louth County Council-supported projects were recognised at the prestigious 2025 Irish Construction Excellence (ICE) Awards, which were held at the Convention Centre in Dublin on Thursday 1 May.

May 20th
Louth County Council inspected 1,718 private rental dwellings in the county last year, in relation to enforcement of minimum standards in rented accommodation, and issued 1,299 Improvement Letters to landlords for improvements to be carried out, figures from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage have revealed.

Students hopped on their bikes for a cycle celebrating the newly upgraded pedestrian and cycling measures delivered under the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Programme.
The initiative, aimed at encouraging young people to cycle and walk to school, delivered a raft of safety and accessibility improvements, including new crossing points, a ‘School Street’, improved signage and colourful, demountable pencil bollards at St Louis Secondary School.

The former Carroll Village Shopping Centre in Dundalk changed hands with its new owners saying that its vision is to “revitalise and reinvigorate” the local community.
Castle Entertainment Centre Limited, which describes itself as an innovator in commercial real estate, said in a statement to the Dundalk Democrat that it was “proud to announce the acquisition of the Carroll Village Shopping Centre, a long-neglected retail complex located in the heart of Dundalk”.

Councillors at the Dundalk Municipal District May meeting marked the retirement of Director of Services, Joe McGuinness, who was retiring after 41 years of service with Louth County Council.

May 27th
There were over 900 children in Louth with a disability or autism, waiting for an Assessment of Needs (AON) report, along with vacancies in over half the therapy posts in the north of the county, it was revealed, with local political representatives backing the demand made by disability campaigner Cara Darmody, that the Government tackle long waiting lists for Assessment of Need.

Cllr John Reilly has asked Louth County Council to look into turning a piece of wasteland in Fatima in Dundalk into a recreational space for the local community.

There were three Louth winners at the All-Ireland final of the 2025 Irish Restaurant Awards.
Stranfield House in Ballymacscanlon was awarded both Best Café in Leinster and in Ireland. The Valley Inn in Dunleer won the award for Best Casual Dining and the Glyde Inn in Annagassan won Best Gastro pub in Leinster.
