Litter wardens carried out almost 300 litter investigations in Louth last month

Louth County Council has said that its litter wardens completed 283 investigations in response to dumping reported by members of the public in November, with seven Fixed Penalty Notices issued during the month, where evidence was found under the Litter Pollution Act 1997.

In monthly data released by the local authority, it added that five-hour foot patrols were undertaken by the litter wardens on 12 November. The areas covered were Ramparts, River Walk, Chord Road, and the Glen Drogheda, with the main emphasis being on awareness of dog fouling and cleaning-up after owner's dogs.

The Council said that its Waste Enforcement team continues to progress the Presentation of Waste Project, with a pilot project commencing in Castleross in Dundalk.

The project, the local authority said, has identified that 16.5% of households in this area do not have a kerbside waste collection, and that the waste enforcement team has corresponded with each household identified as not having a kerbside waste collection service.

It went on to say that to date, engagement has been poor and follow up correspondence is being issued. Non engagement will then be followed up with a site inspection.
