Tapemount Limited granted planning permission for the development
Louth County Council has given the go ahead for a development of 99 new homes at Dromena Road, Castlebellingham.
Tapemount Limited applied in October 2024 for planning permission to construct a residential development consisting of 99 homes, comprising eight two-bed houses, 49 three-bed houses, and 36 four-bed houses - 93 houses in total, one and two storey in height.
It also includes six apartments, four one-bed and two, two-bed, and a childcare facility. The apartments are located over two floors within a three storey building with a childcare facility at ground floor level. Seven of the planned houses would front directly onto Dromena Road with each having an individual vehicular access directly onto Dromena Road.
The planned main vehicular entrance to the development would be from the R132 Dundalk Road with a secondary vehicular entrance from Dromena Road. The secondary vehicular access off Dromena Road is at the southern end of the site and would serve the crèche, the six apartments and three bungalows. It is also planned that there would be no vehicular route through the site from the R132 to Dromena Road.

The planning application also provides for a new footpath along part of Dromena Road, pedestrian/cycle access points and a new crossing point on the R132 Dundalk Road; as well as items including: site development works to facilitate the proposed development including the demolition of existing agricultural sheds and undergrounding of overhead lines; and all associated development works including adjustments to ground levels, car parking, landscaping, public lighting and boundary treatments.
A decision on the application had initially been due in December of last year but Louth County Council sought further information on the proposed development that month.
Following the submission of significant further information in September 2025 which provided for items including revised site plans and submission of a Natura Impact Statement (NIS), Louth County Council granted planning permission on 3 November, subject to 38 planning conditions.
